Grace’s thoughts when Maurice unexpectedly re-enters her life:
Settling into her seat on the train, Grace closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The image of Maurice pleading with her to go with him to New Orleans flooded her mind. He’s never asked me to go anywhere before. Why now? She went to the studio with the full intent of telling him about Trevor, but the timing was all wrong. Maurice is distressed over his mother’s condition. He is on the verge of losing her. How could I tell him he’d lost me, too? Oh my god, I still love Maurice. Trevor does not make love like that. It’s still amazing.
What is the purpose of this book?
To highlight the importance of love, commitment, and fidelity in every relationship.
Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work? A common thread?
Fidelity is a big thing for me and is usually a recurring theme in my work.
Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write? Which part was the hardest?
The fun part was writing the push-and-pull interaction between Grace and Maurice.
The hard part was expressing the grief associated with losing loved ones.
