About the Author: Harold Phifer
Harold Phifer’s journey is one of resilience, transformation, and unexpected adventures. Born and raised in Columbus, Mississippi, he grew up navigating the challenges of the rebellious South, hustling the streets, working in bars, and learning early on the power of survival. His education journey led him to earn degrees from Mississippi State and Jackson State Universities. Despite landing a stable career as an Air Traffic Controller in Memphis, Tennessee, Harold couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.
Determined to find purpose, he left behind the comforts of home and ventured abroad, taking on a job as an International Contractor. While working alongside soldiers, Harold found a sense of duty and fulfillment—but his path wasn’t without its struggles. His career then led him to Iraq, but in 2011, he was expelled due to the U.S. Military Drawdown. From there, Harold’s story took him to Afghanistan, where he worked as a mercenary for eight years. His life took another dramatic turn when the Taliban seized control of the country in 2021, forcing him to flee.
Harold’s escape landed him at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, where he resumed his Air Traffic Controller duties and began exploring his creative side by writing books. In 2024, he returned to the Middle East to continue his work and his passion for storytelling.
