Author Feature: W. Mason Dunn

This week’s Author Feature highlights the inspiring journey of W. Mason Dunn, a writer whose novels reflect the richness of American life and the emotional realities of relationships, resilience, and faith.

Born in Bossier City, Louisiana, Dunn developed an early appreciation for storytelling and communication. During her younger years, she participated in a variety of writing and speech competitions, often traveling back to Louisiana to compete in regional contests. Her talent for expressing ideas and connecting with audiences earned her multiple awards and recognition.

One of the most meaningful competitions she participated in was the Voice of Democracy Contest, a program that encourages young people to reflect on civic values and the importance of democracy. Experiences like these helped shape Dunn’s ability to write stories that speak to both personal and universal experiences.

Although she originally considered a career in journalism, her academic journey took a different turn when she discovered an interest in accounting while attending college. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas College, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

Her professional career has been rooted in higher education and public service. Currently, Dunn serves in the Human Resources Department at Florida A&M University, where she has worked for the past eight years.

Before joining the university, she spent 12 years supporting military families as a higher education counselor, traveling alongside her husband during his service in the United States Marine Corps. Her husband, Donald Michael Dunn, retired after 20 years of military service, and together they have built a strong family foundation.

The couple has been married for three decades and are the proud parents of two adult children, Michael Stewart Dunn and Ashley Elaine Dunn.

Dunn’s passion for writing remained constant throughout her life, influenced in part by her sister, Judi Ann Mason, an accomplished playwright and screenwriter whose credits include Sister Act II: Back in the Habit, A Different World, and I’ll Fly Away.

Inspired by her sister’s success, Dunn continued developing her own voice as a storyteller.

Her novels bring readers into stories filled with emotion, reflection, and meaningful life lessons. Her book More Than Sisters explores the powerful bonds of family and friendship while reminding readers that life’s journey is never meant to be walked alone.

Her later works—Keeping Receipts, Hearts on Hold, and The Promise of Us—continue that tradition, focusing on themes of love, redemption, and second chances.

Through relatable characters and heartfelt storytelling, W. Mason Dunn invites readers to experience the joys and struggles that shape human relationships.

Her stories move readers through a range of emotions—joy, pain, laughter, tears, and triumph—while ultimately offering hope and encouragement.

Whether exploring family bonds or romantic relationships, Dunn’s writing reminds us that every life story contains moments of transformation and grace.
