BIO:

Pat G’Orge-Walker is a former Record Industry vet and an award-winning National and Essence Bestselling author, comedian, and the creator of the award-winning Sister Betty gospel comedy series. She has written more than 15 books and Ebooks and participated in several anthologies. Pat is published by Kensington/Dafina Books and resides in North Carolina.

At what age did you know you wanted to become a writer?

In elementary school, I wrote stories as a distraction. It was a way to create an environment that made me happy.

Was your first book published or is it still lurking in a drawer somewhere?

Fortunately, my first book was self-published and then republished by Kensington/Dafina. “Sister Betty God’s Calling You, Again.”

Who or what have been your most important influences?

Being a PK was my starting point. I wanted to show folks as being the sermon they either heard or preached. From there life became my dominant influence; whether it was good or bad.

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be doing?

I always wanted to be a Court Stenographer.

    What’s your favorite a) film; b) album; c) artist?

My favorite film is “Lackawanna Blues. I have rewatched it numerous times.

My favorite album is Stevie Wonders, “Songs in the Key of Life.”

My favorite artists? I have several but Barry White remains on top.

If you could spend time with any character from your books, who would it be and what would you do?

I would spend time with Sister Ima Hellraiser. She is based on my first cousin, Myra A. Some of the antics Myra and I used to get into aren’t far from those of Sister Hellraiser. Thank the Lord for salvation.

    What is your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is fire. I have been trapped in it twice. The other is birds. I am petrified of birds.

Do you have a day job when you are not writing? If so, what do you do?

I do not have a day job aside from performing Sister Betty’s comedy.

List five things that make you happy.

Praise and Worship. As an extrovert, spending time alone brings joy. Giving. I’m a natural giver but a very poor receiver ( too much pride.) I love dogs! They always make me smile. My dogs are in my Will. Watching KDramas. I am addicted to them.

What’s the title of the last book you read?

    “Neverwraith,” by Shakir Rasshan. Excellent!
